WESTCONNEX M4 EAST
Concord, Strathfield & Homebush, Sydney
Westconnex is part of a major infrastructure project currently underway by the NSW Government. The project will comprise of a system of new tunnels in conjunction with widening of existing motorways in and around Sydney’s west. The project is broken into 4 separable portions each one an entry ramp or shaft. All piling works are to provide temporary retention for excavation to occur to allow the projects large tunnelling machinery access to begin the major tunnelling works.
The top layer of soil was unstable due to previous backfill present on site. In order to prevent this problem temporary pile casings were used to maintain the integrity of the pile during reinforcement and concrete placing and then removed once the concrete pour was completed.
