Solutions

The construction was broken down into two stages.

Stage 1 involved retention works and construction of the structure. This involved construction of a secant pile wall, contiguous piles, capping beam and installation of sheet piles to temporarily close the channel entrance. To provide stability during excavation and dewatering of the coffer dam jet grout struts were utilized. Jet grouting struts required careful monitoring of strength and modulus through testing at 2, 4, 7 and 28 days. Further deflection testing was conducted during the excavation phase to ensure deflection limits were not exceeded. Following excavation of the coffer dam, the base slab was installed.

Stage 2 involved modification of the existing harbor and shoreline to form the channel entry.
