NORTH REGIONAL BUSINESS CENTRE
Chermside, Brisbane
Berlin-type Walls, Temporary Anchors & Shotcrete Walls
Project Description
Construction of a 3000 square metre Library, North Regional Business Centre and Basement Carparking area to increase the capacity of the local Council services for the Northside community by providing Council facilities and services in one central location. Bachy Soletanche Australia were engaged by Tomkins to design, construct & certify the retention system for the underground 2.5 level basement.
Solutions
Bachy Soletanche Australia designed an anchored soldier pile and shotcrete wall with capping beam for the retention system. The temporary anchors were installed through sleeved voids cast into the capping beam to save approximately 2 weeks on program. Using this methodology rather than anchoring through each pile on the first drop of excavation, the anchor drill rig was able to closely follow the construction of the capping beam so that both trades were completed within a few days of each other. CFA piles were adopted to mitigate the likely presence of unstable pile bores due to the variable nature of the natural soils across the site and the observed high groundwater table. Double strip drains with maintenance inspection portals were cast into each shotcrete panel to ensure the wall remains free-draining throughout its life.
